Becoming Your Servant

Most Wondrous Lord, I find it amazing that You have chosen me to do Your will despite my being a finite and imperfect person. Being made in accordance with Your will, You gave me life and invited me to become a servant. When You call upon me, I do not always understand why, but I am confident that what You want me to do is important. When I possess an open and obedient attitude, You can infuse the power of the Holy Spirit into my life for the job ahead. You do not require that I always understand everything behind what I am being asked to do, but You do require that I be willing and obedient. You ask me to be faithful to what I know is true and right. The world defines success as giving people what they want. Your success is defined as doing what You ask us to do. My success is not measured by how others respond, but how I respond to Your request.

I am confident that You will provide me with the power and wisdom I need to accomplish what You sent me to do. When You point out that I am doing something wrong, I should not ignore Your correction … and instead, address it and correct it. By responding to You, I show myself worthy and deserving of Your confidence in me. I must always respond to Your call when You ask me to do something even if I do not fully understand Your motive. I should not retreat in fear from what You ask me to do, even if the task seems difficult. Since Your Spirit accompanies me, I must set aside my fears knowing He is standing with me. I am confident that His strength is strong enough to get me through anything/anyone I face. The spiritual uplifting that I receive from receiving communion, reading Your Word, and spending time with You sustains me through my most trying times.

I must internalize Your words before I can ever convince others that they should accept them. Your message must first take root in my heart before they ever show up in my attitudes and actions. As I grow in You, I will experience times of great joy and fulfillment but I should not forget that I live in a world who tries to overwhelm my life with immoral ways of living. If I continue in committing sins, the many good things You have given me will be taken away. If I keep my eyes on You and remain obedient to You, You will continue to reward me with good gifts. While I am individually responsible for my decisions, You have super-imposed on me a special responsibility to caution others about the sinful seeds they are sowing which will lead them into punishment. This added responsibility should act as a stimulus to share my faith more openly with others. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

Luke 16:13 “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other.”
