Building Trust in God

O Lord, regardless of my circumstances, there is one thing that You require of me … to trust in You.  I do not have to see everything or know all … just believe that You will always be there to lean on.  When things are at their worst, I must believe that You will be faithful in order that I survive my ordeal.  I must believe that You are not a man that You should lie … but the God in whom resides all truth.  When my life is full of darkness … I must seek Your light.  When all hope is lost … I must seek You, the author and finisher of my faith.  When others abandon me or turn their back on me … I must be confident that You will always be there to lift me up and carry me across the finish line to a place of peace and rest.

In order to build my trust in You, I must be patient.   I must realize that I do not need all my answers right now.  In my lifetime, I will never be able to resolve every question, fix every problem or understand every situation … but you can … and therein lay my hope and confidence.  In time, I know that You will make things clear to me and show me the way I am to go.  I must never lose sight of the fact that You are in control.  I must accept the fact that just because I want things to go my way does not mean they will.  I must draw consolation from the knowledge that just because things are not going my way NOW, doesn’t mean they will never go my way.  I need not fret over Your timetable either because Your timing is always perfect.  I must come to understand and trust that I will receive the blessings of Your promises through patience.  Because You know how and when to answer my prayers … I must trust Your timing.

I have come to understand that my trust in You, My Lord, is an assured reliance on Your integrity, faithfulness and justice.  As I dedicate myself to more time with You, I will learn more about Your will and Your ways … about the purity of Your heart and love … about accepting the gifts You meant for me since the beginning of time … and, about Your lifting burdens off of me and opening doors when they all seemed closed.  Only then, will I be able to comprehend an absolute and unquestioning reliance on Your faithfulness.  To succeed, I must continue to rely on Your wisdom, strength, peace and joy to carry me through difficult times and sustain me in the good ones.  As I grow in faith and trust, I know I will begin to feel confident hope streaming from within my inner-most being throughout each day.  O, how I cannot wait for that day to come.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen!!

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all Your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight.
