Choosing to Worship You

Dear Precious Lord, I know that You have instructed those who want to worship You to do so in spirit and truth … indicating Your desire for my spirit to respond to Yours and my life to be intertwined with Yours.  Since You are a spirit, You want me to worship You in my inner man where You’ll reveal Your truths to me … Your truths are the essence of who You are.  Your hope is that I will seek the aid of the Holy Spirit who will direct me into a deeper relationship with You.  The issue before me, and all believers, is not will I worship, but who will I worship.  When I choose to lift You up, the result is an outflowing of joy, safety and contentment.  Help me stop focusing on the things of the earth … riches, fame, possessions, self-gratification … and, instead, focus on You and all that You bring to my life.  I realize that if I cherish something other than You, I’m opening myself to countless temptations and a vicious struggle between good and evil.  I know that as I worship You in all things, You will bless me.

I recognize that I must not only worship You with words, but with deeds also.  To truly worship You, I must willingly obey and honor You with my life.  In order to find meaning and purpose for my life, I must first seek and find Your purpose and will for me.  You must come first in everything and, when I realize this, praise and worship will come naturally to my heart and lips.  Along with my worship must come unselfish service to You and my fellow man because my service shows You how much You mean to me and how much I am committed to doing Your will.  When I yearn for You, prayers and songs of praise lead me to Your throne.  As You flood my life with Your love and You faithfully stand with me, I will be filled with joy to the point that my heart will burst forth into praise.  In Your presence, I am refreshed, renewed and strengthened.

I know that when I place You at the center of my life, I am content … but when You are not, I worry.  I am convinced that, when I pray, You are delighted that I want to spend time in dialogue with You.  I find it very easy to rejoice when I think about You and all You’ve done for me.  Within me is a natural and undeniable desire to communicate with You.  Vital and critical parts of that communication is my praise and acknowledgement of … all that You are … how very much you love me … and, how appreciative I am for the provisions You’ve made for my care and well-being.  I know that through the partaking of Your Word, Your Body and Blood and Your wise counsel, I will grow and mature spiritually.  When I make time for You, I am reminded of Your awesome power and love.  The more I get to know You and Your kindness, the more I am inspired to be like You.  This day, My Lord, I choose to worship You in thought, word and deed.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!
