My Lifelong Companion, I am comforted in knowing that You are with me as I travel life’s journey. You have promised, and I believe, that everything works out for good regardless of what I see with my natural eyes. I understand that my life will have its share of ups and downs, but You will be with me in them. Regardless of the pain, suffering and disappointments I experience, You will show me a better way that will allow me to overcome them all. When I awake each day, I feel Your presence with me. You’ve called me to the life I live and, as long as I cling to You, everything will work out okay. It is with a deep and abiding love for You that my heart cries out “it is good to be with You today.” I believe that with each breath I take I am being transformed into the person You want me to become. I cannot come close to becoming the person You want me to be without You traveling at my side.
I am so glad You accept me as I am … a sinner, a person prone to taking You for granted and someone who does not always pay attention when You call out to me. There are forces all around me that work to separate me from You and Your love. Though I may be careless and awkward with things in my life, You never leave me or reject me. In Your life here on earth, You were criticized for the sinners You surrounded Yourself with … yet You never turned Your back on them … You reached out to them with love and concern like You do to me. I am thankful that You do not become impatient with me when I do not understand or accept what You are asking of me. Because of Your persistent love, I know You will strive to guide me in paths of righteousness no matter how much I ignore Your instructions. I know You will find a way to get my attention.
You encourage me to not get entangled with the world … with its love of money, seeking power and striving for recognition and status. The way to experience contentment is to realize Your sufficiency in supplying all of my needs. Insecurity can lead me to seek worldly things to fill my emptiness. However, I must never forget Your promise to “never leave me or forsake me.” Help me become content by living with what I have and not striving for more … to give liberally from my abundance rather than trying to accumulate more … relishing what I have rather than resenting what I am missing … and realizing there is more to being wealthy than having lots of things. I must take comfort from what You have provided and look forward to things You promised if I would be obedient. Help me be willing to take up my cross and walk with You daily. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
John 12:26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant will also be.
