O Gracious Lord, in Your infinite wisdom, You sent Your Holy Spirit with a mission to impart the Word to mankind for his instruction in Godly things. To do that, He raised up saintly and learned men who under His inspiration crafted Your Word and shared it with those who would listen. Through His influence and guidance, the Kingdom has flourished and prospered. I find myself, almost daily, praying “come sweet Holy Spirit” to set ablaze the hearts of men to seek after their God … to turn away from their evil ways and corruption … and, cause them to reject their selfish yearnings in favor of love and peace toward all men. I sometimes find it hard to pray as I should, so I ask the Spirit to open my heart and mind … to understand and recognize Your purposes … to see the suffering of others that is going on around me and want to do something about it … and, to accept my role in sharing the Good News with everyone I meet.
In my days of sorrow, frustration and impatience, come Holy Spirit to comfort my torment, drive away fear and worry and replace doubt with faith. When I become lost in the maze of life, come to guide me out of danger and darkness into the safety of Your marvelous light. When I am confused, help me sort through the important and unimportant things that I must deal with … prioritize the things that must be done so that I do not become swamped with too many things to do … and, help me realize that nothing is over until You say it is. I long to be able to distinguish Your voice from all the other voices I hear in my head. I guess the only way to “really know” is to listen to see if the words are holy/pure, caring and filled with wisdom far beyond my human understanding. Come to me sweet Spirit so that I will know the way I am to go and how I am to react to the things going on around me.
As You said when You left the earth to spend eternity with Your Father, “it is good that I go away for I will send You Another One who will walk with you and show you the right way to live.” You knew that, if I was willing to follow You, the Spirit would guide me into truth … show me how to walk in it … and, teach me how to use it to attain the good things of life. O Sweet Spirit, teach me the Words of Life that contain Godly principals and show me how to repel the attacks of my enemy. I am comforted in the knowledge that You awake me in the morning, walk and talk with me throughout my day and tuck me into bed at night. When I am weak, You give me strength … when I am afraid, You give me courage … when I have doubts, You give me faith … and when I lack direction, You point the way. This is why I find myself continually saying “come sweet Holy Spirit.” And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
