Doing the Work

Most Dedicated Lord, You have spoken through Your Word that it is not by works that I am saved … rather, for the works of Your Kingdom to which I’ve been called.  In conveying this truth to me, You’ve helped me understand that I cannot do enough to work my way into Heaven.  Instead, You have redeemed me through Your act of love and now I am free from the bondage of sin and able to do the works which You intended for me to do when I was given life.  Out of my gratitude for what You’ve done for me, I gladly accept the opportunity to serve You by helping others with acts of kindness, love and compassion.  While nothing I can do is good enough to earn my salvation, Your intention is that through my salvation … I will become motivated to do acts of service.  You have not come to save me for my benefit only, but to serve You and build Your church.

Eliminating the penalties of my sins does not come from the works that I do but my acknowledgement of who You are.  The foundation of my life is built upon this acknowledgement.  You have shown me by Your good works the attitude that I must display in order to bring glory to Your Heavenly Father.  As a result of devotion to You, the Holy Spirit empowers me to do the works that You require and even more than I could ever envision accomplishing.  I must humbly acknowledge that I can do nothing meaningful on my own, but only by replicating the things You showed me to do.  In order to become a “true” follower of Yours, I must live as You lived and allow myself to be conformed into Your image.  As long as I live, I must be dedicated to doing the works that You ask of me.  As I give You freedom to live in me, it is You who motivates me to fulfill my calling and live a life of giving.

In partnering with the Holy Spirit, He teaches me how to share the Good News of Your coming.  For You have called me out of darkness to be immersed in Your light so I can share it with others.  As You work in my life, I’m becoming more committed to doing good, becoming generous and sharing with others.  In so doing, I am laying up treasures for myself and breaking away from the forces of evil.  My new work has become … the reading of Your Word … meditating on it … and, doing it.  You gave me the Scriptures for my instruction, correction and training so that I would be thoroughly equipped for good works.  As a Christian, I must be devoted to doing what is good, loving and kind … and, spurring others to do the same.  For what good is it for me to say I walk by faith and have no works to show for it?  That’s why I am committed to doing the works to which You’ve called me.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

John 14:12 “I tell you truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I am doing.  He will do even greater works than I …”
