Free To Be

My Glorious Savior, there is nothing more exhilarating as knowing that my past is forgiven and I’ve been set free from the things that have held me back.  The yearning of every man is to be free and You have done that for me by freeing me from the power of sin and giving me the privilege of serving You.  As a committed Christian, I sometimes feel the pull of my old nature and the world.  To my relief, those feelings have been countered by my faith in You.  Since salvation comes to me by grace as I believe in You as my Redeemer, there is nothing more I can do to gain my freedom.  Faith is Your key to the shackles of sin.  Through the freedom gained by Your work on Calvary, I’ve been freed to love You and my fellow man.  To preserve this wonderful gift of freedom, I must remain close to You and resist the pull of the “dark side.”  You have allowed me to walk in the light so I must take advantage of it.

The more time I spend getting to know You, the more clearly I am able to see my sinfulness.  Only after I’ve acknowledged it can I begin to allow You to redeem me from its hold.  Under the Old Testament, the law had two purposes:  To reveal Your nature and how You wanted Your people to live; and, to point out my sins and show me how impossible it was to please You without obeying everything You commanded.  The law did not justify nor save … it only condemned.  So the law’s role was to lead me to You by showing me my deficiencies and the fact I could never save myself.  But You took the condemnation of the law upon Yourself on the cross.  Through my faith in You, I have access to Your redemptive work.  Trying to get right with God on my own is futile.  By placing my trust in You, I’ve been able to break the cycle of sin that has controlled my life.

Though circumstances around me change all of the time, You are constant in Your promise to forgive my sins and give me a new life.  I was separated from You by my sins but, as my Mediator, You’ve brought me into relationship with Your Father.  Through the offering of Yourself, You have given me newness of life … a new beginning … and, a fresh start.  You paid the price to free me from the debt I owed.  As my Mediator, You exchanged Your life for mine.  My debt has been paid in full and I am free to live my life for You.  I rejoice in the fact that my eyes have been opened to You as my way to Heaven.  My new goal should be to imitate the example You have left for me.  My life, as was Yours, should be devoted to self-sacrificing service.  My motivation should be fueled by the freedom that I’ve received through You.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
