My Triumphant Savior, from deep within me has come a desire for You to create in me a pure heart and spirit. As an offspring of Adam, I inherited his fallen nature (a tendency to sin) and Your Father’s wrath. In the sacrifice of Yourself, I’ve been allowed to trade judgement for forgiveness … sin for righteousness … bondage for freedom. I’ve been given the choice of eternal death through Adam or eternal life through You. By choosing You, I’ve been set free from slavery to sin in order to become Your freedman. My new condition leads me to holiness, upright living and life everlasting. Change is the manifestation of freedom abounding in my life. I’ve been set free from oppression, fear/worry and a tendency to yield to temptation. I’ve been enabled to serve You without reservation. The old constraints of my past have been replaced by a new identity in You. I am free to begin life anew.
Freedom is both a gift and a privilege. I am not set free to disobey or do what I want, rather to serve You with love and devotion. To preserve my freedom, I must stay close to You and resist efforts to promote subtle ways of earning favor through good works. Freedom means I am free to love and serve You, not to do as I please. One of the primary freedoms You offer is the ability to love unconditionally. Love that emulates from You means freedom to bear other’s burdens and treat them kindly. You came to set me free … not to free me to do whatever I want because that only leads me back to slavery to my selfishness. Thanks to the transformation I went through in surrendering my life to You, I am free and able to do what has previously been impossible … to live unselfishly. The value of the freedom You offer has no value in turning myself around if I choose to serve myself.
Being set free allows me to reap the fruits of holiness (indicative of the working of the Holy Spirit). Fruit like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control are character traits found in You … that I can now emulate. They are by-products of Your control which I freely relinquished to You when I invited You into my life. Belonging to You has set me free to imitate You without interference from my past. The result is that I am now able to fulfill my intended purpose for which I was sent to earth. A Spirit-filled life brings me into harmony with You and who You want me to become. In my freedom, You become my sole source of truth (knowing what is right). In truth, You’ve freed me from the influence of sin, self-deception and tricks of the enemy. The freedom I receive is to follow You and be all that You meant for me to become. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand fast, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
