Gaining Godly Wisdom

Lord and Master of my life, Your Word tells me that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” and “a good understanding has those who do His commands”.  I believe that Your wisdom abounds in my life when I am able to walk in accordance with Your Word and see it come to fruition.  As a result, I’ll be known by the things I say and do.  That is why, as I gain control over my tongue and begin to speak the truth in love, I’ll be demonstrating the traits of a “wise man”.  For wisdom teaches me how to live in accordance with Your will … constrains me when temptations try to lead me astray … frees me to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit … and, helps me see truths not evident to my “natural mind”.  I know that gaining wisdom takes a lot of effort, focused attention and a willingness to be led.

So how do I go about gaining Godly wisdom?  I think it starts with receiving Your Word as truth and taking ownership of it.  For when I accept Your teachings and walk in them, I take ownership of them … and, if I own them, I care about how I treat them.  I must see them as something of great value … something more valuable than gold, precious stones or the other things I’ve spent my life accumulating.  In addition to receiving and treasuring Your Word, I must add to that an attentive ear.  I should always ask “what’s in the message for me?”  I must be able to find a quiet place and listen for the small, sweet voice inside that is trying to guide me and help me walk in truth.  I must open my heart to listen to the messages contained in Your words and be willing to allow myself to be shown the way to have them influence my thinking.  In order to walk in wisdom, I must be willing to totally submit myself to You and give You complete control of every aspect of my life.  I must give in order to receive.

I yearn to master the things You have to teach me so that I can become empowered to accomplish the things You’ve planned for life.  I want to become so consumed with filling myself with Your wisdom that I find myself pleading with You daily for clarity on issues effecting my life.  I want to long for Your wisdom the way I do for food when I am hungry or water when I am thirsty.  For what You know is extremely valuable to my future … and, I must pursue it as though my life depended on it … because it does.  I cannot take a casual approach toward seeking Your wisdom.  In the same way a miner searches diligently for gold, I must seek Your nuggets of truth.  As I grow closer to You, it will become very obvious why You encourage me to gain Godly wisdom … it is so I can learn to become the most that I can be.  And it’s in Jesus name I pray.  AMEN!!

Psalm 51: 6 Surely, You desire truth in the inner parts: you teach me wisdom in the innermost place.
