Most Holy Lord, throughout the Bible there are stories of people having visions, or a visitation from an angel or a voice speaking from a cloud. I have never experienced anything like that but I know You make efforts each day to communicate with me. However, many times, the voices I hear detour me from the path that You have put me on. These detours mean additional time on an unfamiliar route or at least one that will be more difficult to travel. To insure that I stay on the right path, I must pay close attention to what You are trying to say to me. I need to become discerning of how Your message will be delivered to me … via the reading of Your Word … the guiding light of the Holy Spirit … or the wise counsel of a mature Christian in whom I can trust. I believe that even when I don’t get it … You are still protecting me and will find ways to get Your message to me.
Sometimes I find myself being lead down a dead end road brought about by my sins and or my neglect to seek Your will. These times are painful and confusing, but I continue to believe that You will never abandon me along the way. These are the times that I count on Your grace to work everything out for me because in the depths of my heart You are my Lord. I know that You have left me a Comforter, a Helper, to guide me in the things of life. I will rely on Him to help me run my race so that I will end up at the right place … doing what I am supposed to do … just when I need to do it. When I err, I need the Holy Spirit to point out my error so that in humble repentance I can get my journey back on track. It is awesome how Your words of love and encouragement help me realize my deficiencies and show me the unmerited favor You hold in Your heart for me.
Your words are swift and powerful and contain the ability to change and restore me. The path that You have charted for me is always upward and filled with promise. Only, if I fail or neglect to listen to You, will I miss out on the blessings You intended for me when I first believed and began my walk with You. Hearing from You comes from picking up my Bible and reading the scriptures … or, any time I ask the Holy Spirit to open my heart, ears and mind to hear what You have to say. As I listen more closely to what You have to say, I will begin to familiarize myself with Your voice and begin to reject the other voices who are trying to deceive me. I’ve learned that knowing Your voice means knowing You. No matter where life may lead me, it is always important for me to get my direction from You. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
Psalm 25:4-5 Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me for You are my Savior and my hope is in You all day long.
