Great Is the Lord

Great is the Lord and richly deserving of honor and praise … by those in the Heavens and those in the Earth … by those who lived in the past and those who live today … and, those who will be given life in the future.  For You have done many great things for Your people … especially me.  You have spilled Your blood to deliver me from the powers of sin and death.  You’ve overcome the Evil One so that I too might triumph over him.  By Your stripes, I have been given divine health.  Through Your loving forgiveness, I’ve been made a joint heir with You.  Through Your gifts, I bask in abundance, peace and a place of safe refuge.  Though the gift of the Holy Spirit, I’ve been plugged into Your will and plan for my life.  Through the Holy Spirit, I’ve been provided with a Counselor, Comforter and Guide.  Through His workings, I’ve been washed as white as snow and I’ve been given a place at Your banqueting table.

Why then do I not make a better showing of my appreciation for all that You have done for me?  Is it because my spirit is willing but my flesh is weak … or, is it because my pride does not allow me to confess my faults and accept Your free gift of your forgiveness … or, is it because self is more important than anything else … or, have the deceptions of my enemy stolen my path forward … or, have my things taken precedence over You?  I think it is in part a measure of all of these things and I must repent of them and seek to change.  To do so, I need to seek You with all my heart and look for You throughout my day.  All that I do must be motivated by an endless love and undying devotion to You.  I must decrease while You increase.  I must seek You relentlessly until You are found.  I am but one who is lost and You are a wise/caring Shepherd.  Come find me and bring me into Your fold where I will be safe.

In the realities of things, I must recognize that Your greatness does not depend on me.  From the beginning of time, all power and wisdom resided in You.  Everything that I have is on loan from Your bounteous storehouse.  That which I have accomplished has been with Your help and achieved through Your blessings and grace.  Everything that is good in my life has come from You.  On my most generous day, my giving is but a drop in the ocean in comparison with Yours.  Yet You continue to flood my life with blessings, good fortune and well-wishes.  I’m sure that my failures grieve You very much.  Therefore, my goal in life is to make You proud of me.  Like an obedient child, I must show You the honor, respect and love You deserve.  You have removed barriers from my life through my faith in You.  That is why I praise You, because You alone are worthy.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Psalm 145:3 Great is the Lord and most worthy to be praised: His greatness has no measure.
