Growing Older and Wiser

O God of Endless Wisdom, as I’ve grown older, I have come to realize that whether I put my money in a $300 wallet or a $30 wallet, the money inside is the same … and, if I live in a 1000 square foot house or a 3000 square foot house, the life inside is the same … and, if I fly first class or economy class, everyone will arrive at the airport at the same time.  Through the passage of time, I’ve learned that true happiness comes from meaningful relationships with others and You.  That is why You instructed me to love You with my whole heart and my neighbors as much as I love myself.  I am learning that spending my energy on amassing money, position and power are not the things You want me spending my time on.  Instead, my energy should go toward seeking the things that are imperishable.  Things like becoming prudent, eating and doing healthy things, spending time with You and acting unselfishly produce more good.

There is a big difference in declaring myself a Christian and being a Christian.  It is easy to say it, but my actions speak louder than words.  Christianity is not a badge to be worn on the outside, but an inner calling to die to self, live to serve, being faithful to You alone and walking uprightly.  May Your light perpetually shine on me and may I radiate its glow to everyone that I meet.  I understand that I was born in love and there will be love waiting for me when I die … however, there are a lot of feelings to manage during my journey on earth.  While I know Your love goes with me wherever I go, my trials and circumstances have an effect on me whether I admit it or not.  As I struggle with my issues, I lose sight of Your desire to be involved in my life and I even wonder if You care about what is happening.  However, no matter how low or distracted I get, You have shown me Your faithfulness and Your desire to help.

It is so much easier to go through life doing my own thing.  However, if I want to do anything meaningful with it, I must do everything in conjunction with You.  Doing things my way may seem to be the easiest, but it’s usually filled with struggles, heartache and regrets.  The best environment for me to prosper and grow is produced by maintaining my focus on You.  The place where peace, safety and righteousness can only be found is through placing my life in Your hands.  Your Word tells me that Godly wisdom comes from a reverential devotion and respect for You as my Lord.  My submission to Your will allows goodness and wisdom to be transferred from You to me.  In submitting, I no longer want to be just a hearer of Your words, but a doer of them.  Understanding that what I know is like a speck in the Universe when compared to all You know.  As I get older, I’m learning to put a higher priority on what You know.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!
