All-Knowing Lord, I am committed to grow in the grace and knowledge of who You are. You have asked that I be diligent in becoming a worker in Your vineyard and walking in conformity with Your Word. As I meditate on the scriptures and work on applying them in my life, I am convinced that my progress will become evident to others and bring You glory. In order to grow up spiritually, I must become diligent in in adding to my faith … walking virtuously … growing in my knowledge … demonstrating self-control … persevering in all things … and showing brotherly love. If I master these things, I know that my life will be fruitful and I will become more like You. When I seek the help of the Holy Spirit, He will strengthen me in my inner man and show me the way to gain the goal of becoming more like You. With His help, I know I will get better at understanding the various aspects of spirituality.
As Your child, I want to grow up to be like You. An important factor in that growth is maintaining my spiritual health. I can do that through prayer without ceasing, walking by faith and nourishing myself through the reading of Your Word. My desire is to learn more about You and to nourish myself through the regular study and meditation on Your words. As I acknowledge my need for You and seek to know You more, I will be able to stand on steady legs that withstand the forces brought on me by adversity and circumstances. As my appetite for spiritual things grows, I know that spiritual maturity and growth of my faith will follow. If I choose to remain worldly and not dedicate myself to contemplating the things of Your Kingdom, I will remain immature and unfit to be called Yours. When I am controlled by my desires, my growth is stunted. When I tune in to Your desires, I act in a mature and responsible way.
My sincere wish is to be filled with knowledge of You and be able to understand spiritual things. When I accomplish this, I can walk worthy of You … become fruitful in every kind of good work … and, live by faith and not by sight. Growth in You means I will become strengthened in my inner man so that I can remain patient and persevering when the answers to my prayers do not come as quickly as I think they should. If I saturate myself in Your Word, I am allowing myself to be taught by “The Master.” And in those times, I will learn how to mirror Your beliefs and actions. In drawing close to You, my faith will flourish and I will become optimistic about my future. As I mature, I will no longer be like a child tossed to and fro and carried away by every wind of doctrine or confused by the trickery and cunning of my detractors. This is why I yearn to grow up spiritually. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
Hebrews 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use (of the Word) have trained themselves to distinguish between good and evil.
