The success of a man is in the hands of the Lord and his honor is in his good name. He instills his righteousness and favor on those he calls friend. The arrogance and injustice of a man are an outrage to God. Blessings that are poured out from Heaven have their origins in a man’s kindness, humility and generosity shown in his walk. How can anyone created from dust remain prideful? He comes from low estates and returns to it in the end. When a man thinks of himself as anything apart from God, he is reality nothing. For the Mighty One has promised to those who dare to rise up against Him, that he would cast them down and make them an abomination. The Lord will pluck up the haughty man by his roots and plant the humble man in his place. His name will be blotted out of the Book of Life and he will be remembered no more.
Is there anyone who thinks of himself worthy of a higher place than his brethren? Surely not … for all men are created equal in the sight of God. Brother should love brother and be willing to lay down his life for him. Did not the Lord show us this way by His example? Who among us is deserving of honor? Isn’t it those who fear the Lord and submit themselves to Him? The rich, greedy and thoughtless man will have no place of honor at the banqueting table of the Lord … for those places are reserved for humble, caring and just men. Nor should the intelligent man think too highly of himself because, without the laborer, what great thing can be built? Rulers and judges who consider themselves above the law will be brought down by it. Is the master greater than the slave? No … for both are free men in the Lord.
Does not every man show his worth by what he does? Reaping what he sows both in Heaven and on Earth? Is it better for a man to work and have abundance in humility or make an open show of his works and display his wealth? If a man has glory in anything, it should be in his humility … recognizing he was created from the smallest of particles and can do nothing meaningful and lasting apart from God. How can one expect honor and good treatment from God when he dishonors Him in word and deed. A wise man is honored for what he knows and how he uses it. And the more he is given … the more will be expected. The rich man has no time for God because he is caring for his things. Is then a poor man to be honored because he has nothing? No … because he will be judged by his good works and the abundance of his heart.
Closing Prayer: Help me, Lord, to reframe from boasting and being filled with self-pride … realizing that my boast can only be in You. Help me remain thankful for all that I have … realizing it is all a gift from You. I know that as I strive to do my best and cultivate a humble heart, things will begin working out for the better in my life. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
