I Am Not My Own

O Beloved Savior, I marvel at the fact that You chose me to receive the gift of life.  With that life I was given a purpose and race to run.  You formed me in my mother’s womb and that’s how I know I belong to You.  You gave me a unique set of gifts and abilities and trusted me to use them wisely.  Because I’m committed to You, I am unashamed to let others know that I am Yours.  You have made me a temple of the Holy Spirit and gifted me with His help in managing my affairs.  Because I have been bought with the price of Your blood, I am no longer my own.  I have been consecrated to You and I must live to do Your good pleasure.  You’ve given me a free will by which to make my own decisions … good or bad … but I must learn to discriminate between the two and choose righteous living.  Should I decide not to follow You, I will be turned over to my lusts and self-indulging ways which will surely lead to my destruction.

As Your own, I am a field where Your truths are planted and a warehouse where Your goodness is stored.  I am to lead my life in a way that gives You glory and is a witness to Your love and faithfulness.  When others rejoice, I should rejoice with them … when they weep, I should weep with them … I should show respect toward all … I must not repay evil with evil … I must shun arrogance and show humility.  Pleasing of self should no longer be my primary goal … instead, making You and others my top priority.  Since You are love, my motivation should be to show love … by being patient, kind, unselfish, enduring hardships without complaining, giving hope, believing all things are possible and rejoicing at being Yours.  I must take care in what I believe and how I live out my life.  My attention and devotion must be on You and I must be watchful to see where I can be of help to others.

Since I am Yours, I must be continually examining my life, my attitudes and my actions to insure my purpose and motives are pure.  I must take care to not give in to the pressures of the world, allow comfort to replace commitment, tolerate evil rather that stand by my convictions, cling to the truth, endure hardships with perseverance and be an active part of Your Kingdom.  My ambition should be to lead a quiet life, mind my own business, work with my hands, try to win over others to You and lean on You in trying times.  I must take the steps to remain close to You and avoid being pulled away to do my own thing.  I will gladly swap enslavement to my own desires for service to Yours.  Your line of thinking is critical to my success because it is life changing.  By surrendering myself to You, I’ve come to recognize that I am no longer my own, but a living part of You.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

I Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that you are a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, who you have received from God?  You are not your own, you are bought with a price.
