I Want To Become a Doer

My Heavenly Redeemer, I want to emulate Your walk while You were here on Earth.  In a world filled with envy, greed and selfishness, it can be hard to do.  However, knowing that every good and every perfect gift comes from you, I should be willing to be a bearer of good gifts.  I no longer want to be a “player” who stands on the sidelines.  I want to get into the “game” so I can be a doer of Your Word.  You gave me the Holy Spirit as my “coach” so I could learn how to assume my place in Your “game plan”.  Because of my faith in You, I know I can muster the courage and fortitude to overcome the “tactics” of my enemy.  I must never forget that You dwell in me and You are greater than any force I will ever encounter.  Through Your sacrifice, I have been endued with the strength to withstand the influences of evil and prevail in the skirmishes that will surely ensue.  You have called me to be a living example of Your love and a force for good.  If I keep You first in my life, I know I will do it.

Where there is distress, help me be a source of hope.  Encouraging others to see their need for You is my mantra.  Where there is hate, help me sow forgiveness.  For hate holds in bondage but forgiveness sets people free.  Where there are captives, help me remove the shackles that bind and show them the way to freedom.  There is much peace and rest that comes from knowing You that cannot be found in their substitutes.  Where there is anger, help me be a peacemaker.  Show me how to become peace and rest to others.  Where there is no compassion, help me be a vessel of Your love and tenderness.  Your love is tender, patient and kind … and I want others to experience these things. Helping others know they can count on someone other than themselves allows them to feel safe and protected.  Where there are pain and wounds, help me apply a balm of love, peace and healing.  Where there is hunger, help me fill them with food and Your Word … because there is a need to fill both body and soul.

And when I have done all that I can, fill me with the contentment and fulfillment of knowing I’ve been Your hands in helping meet the needs of others.  I do not want to become complacent or coast on the knowledge that I’ve been saved by You.  I realize I can do nothing meaningful apart from You.  You saved me with the shedding of Your blood, in retributions for my sins, so that I could contribute to the ongoing work of Your Kingdom.  My life has been purchased so I could become a doer by accepting the mission to serve a lost and hurting world.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

James 1:23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
