Most Faithful Lord, I rejoice in Your promise to never leave or forsake me. I wish I could say I have returned the favor to You. For I know that I do abandon You when I follow the leading of sin and the ways of the world. Through Your death, You have set me free … yet, in rebellion, I go off and put myself back into bondage. I think I understand why You promise to stand by me in all things. For when You were sentenced to death with Your people crying “Crucify Him” and when You hung on the cross saying “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?”, You surely must have felt the emptiness and loneliness of being forsaken by those You loved. From those experiences, You must have surely purposed in You heart to strive to not allow any of Your people to go through the feelings You had felt. How wonderful You are to care for Your people and not want them to feel alone or abandoned.
In promising to be with me always, Your desire is for me to be content with where I am and with what I have because You will be with me in whatever I face. Because of this awareness, I can say “The Lord is my Helper; I will not be afraid.” The comfort You provide allows me to give more liberally of what You’ve given me and relish what You have given me rather than resent what I am missing. I see Your love in the attention You give to my life and the things You have given me to meet my needs. I can become more satisfied if I understand Your sufficiency in meeting my fleshly, mental and spiritual needs. When I feel insecure, I look for other things to calm my apprehensiveness … like things, position, worldly philosophies, etc. The only antidote for this is trust. And I have every reason to trust You because: You do not lie to me; You have compassion for me; and, You are faithful in meeting my needs.
The secret to not feeling abandoned is my ability to draw on Your power for strength. In my times of feeling alone or abandoned, I must learn to rely on Your promises and power to stabilize my emotions. I need to ask You to remove the negative feelings and help me find solace in the fact that You are standing with me in whatever circumstances I find myself. I must accept and believe that You know my needs and what is best for me … and, will provide whatever is lacking so I can feel comforted again. When I feel pressure and gloom closing in on me, I must recognize that You alone are my source of help. You are the Head of Your body and, as such, You know my every circumstance I am facing … and, because of Your love, You are willing to step in and do what is needed. My path to knowing I’m never abandoned is to maintain a clear connection with You. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
Psalm 9:10 Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, O Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.
