My All-Knowing God, I lack wisdom in carrying out the affairs of my life. You are the only One who knows all things and are far wiser than me. Your wisdom comes to me as the result of exhaustive study. You are the starting point for all “real” wisdom and Your Word is the way I attain knowledge and understanding. When I am able to put them to work in my life they become wisdom. I know that You gladly give Your wisdom to those who earnestly seek it. Because Your wisdom is hidden from the foolish and rebellious, it takes real effort and a pure heart to find it and use it. The pathway to developing Godly wisdom is strenuous and requires dedicated effort. When I get on the right path, I discover that “true” wisdom comes from You and guides me in pursuit of Godly goals and rewards me for my efforts. Your wisdom is given to me to lead a successful life and I must use it responsibly.
Wisdom is a result of my personal growth in faith. To gain more of it, I must trust and honor You and realize that what You want me to know is contained in Your Word. To grow in wisdom, I must make a life-long series of good choices and avoid sin. If I make a mistake in my choices, I must learn from my errors and implement corrective actions and judgements. I do not expect to develop all the aspects of wisdom at one time. It requires more Godly insight than human observations and more Godly knowledge than common sense. I must pray continually to grow in all the aspects of wisdom and take the steps You show me to take to develop them in my life. While Your wisdom may be a gift, most of its use and development come from using Your truth in making wise choices in my day-to-day life. The receipt of Your wisdom comes to those who earnestly want to walk as You did.
Godly discretion is an important aspect of wisdom that gives me an ability to discern right from wrong. It enables me to detect the evil motives of people and my enemy. As I develop discretion, it helps me evaluate courses of action and the consequences of my behaviors. It takes concentration and listening ears to develop Godly discretion. When I begin to think that “I know it all”, I am succumbing to prideful thinking and I lose the opportunity to receive Your help and strength in overcoming “stinking thinking.” By looking to You, I can fill my head with wisdom and my heart with love. When I have an important decision to make, I must not forget that You know what is best for me. I must not omit careful thinking or think less of the gift of reasoning You gave me as I seek Your wisdom. However, I must be willing to listen to what You have to say and be corrected by Your Word. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
Psalm 3:1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.
