Increasing in Godly Wisdom

O Fountain of Wisdom, You are the source of all knowledge and understanding.  This was never more clear than in the creation which You filled with great variety, revealing the vastness of Your creativity and innovativeness.  By Your understanding You made the heavens … placed the land upon the waters … and made the great lights (the sun to govern the day and the moon and stars to govern the night).  Every word You utter is flawless and is spoken for the purpose of correction, instruction, encouragement and protection.  In Your wisdom, I find completeness and perfection … it lacks nothing.  The first fruits of wisdom are borne in knowing You.  For in a relationship of knowing You, I gain valuable insights into living my life because You are the initiator of life.  As I listen intently to what You have to say, I add to my learning and, as I seek discernment, I am able to see and distinguish the difference between good and evil.

I can only increase in wisdom through a process of growth.  It begins by completely trusting and honoring You.  Next, the seeds of understanding are sown as I realize that the Scriptures contain the revelation of what You want me to know.  Thirdly, I must strive to make a life-long series of right choices and avoid pitfalls.  When I make wrong choices, I must learn from them and recover.  It is impossible to develop the traits needed to follow You at one time.  When I lack discretion and knowledge, I must pray for Your help in doing what is necessary to grow in wisdom.  By becoming more discerning, I am able to think more clearly and make better choices.  In exercising sound judgement, I use Your instruction, training, discipline and insights for better outcomes.  If I want to increase in Godly wisdom, I must pursue it.  It requires resolve and determination no matter how difficult the road becomes.

Increasing in Your wisdom is a daily process of choosing between two paths … one of evil … or, one of righteousness.  No effort is more important or valuable.  You have promised to guide me and lead me in straight paths.  Therefore, as I pay attention and listen to Your instructions, I will learn Your ways and walk in them.  In the exercise of wisdom, You encourage me to walk simply … stop acting foolishly … listen before speaking … and, choosing instruction over reaction.  But, with more wisdom comes sorrow.  For the more I understand, the more imperfection I see around me.  And the more I observe, the more evil becomes evident.  To increase in wisdom means, I must be ready to feel more, think more, question more, be more and do more.  There is a price for increasing in Godly wisdom, but the more I do … the more I feel connected to You.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Proverbs 1:5-6 Let the wise listen and add to their learning and let the discerning get guidance for understanding proverbs, parables and the sayings of the wise.
