Most Gracious Master, You said in Your Word “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” Your promise tells me that with You, as my Lord, the darkness of evil never has and never will overcome or extinguish the light You have placed within me. Your life brings light into my life. In Your light I am able to see myself as a sinner in need of a Savior. When I follow You (the true light), I can avoid walking blindly and falling into sin. Your light exposes the path ahead of me so I can see the right way to live. Through Your light the darkness of sin is revealed so I can avoid it in my life. As I let You guide me, You will not let me stumble in the darkness. As a soldier follows his captain or a slave follows his master, I should follow You and the light of Your radiance will make my way clear.
To walk safely in the woods at night I need a flashlight so that I do not trip over tree roots or stumble into undiscerned holes. My life is like walking through a dark forest of evil. But Your Word is my light that shows me what is ahead so I do not step into the traps laid out for me by sin as I walk. It reveals to me the entangling roots of false values and the stumbling blocks of world philosophies. By reading and studying Your Word, I am able to stay on the path You want for me. As I walk in Your light I must be brave and reject fear. Fear is a dark shadow that will ultimately envelop me and prevent me from walking in Your light if it is not dealt with. I can conquer fear by using the bright, liberating light of Your Word the way You did when tested in the desert. My desire is for You to send me Your light and Your truth to guide me in getting me to the place You want me to dwell.
Upon receiving Your light, You instruct me not to put it under a bushel basket. You never intended for the light You gave to me to be hidden selfishly in my heart. Your desire is for me to let the light You placed in me shine before men so that they will be able to see my good deeds and give You praise. A light at night can be seen for miles away. If I live for You, I will glow with Your love and show others what belonging to You can do to change their lives. I hide my light when I am quiet when I should speak, go along to get along, deny Your light is in me, let sin dim my light and ignore the needs of others. You expect me to be a beacon of light shining into a world that is dying in darkness. My eyes are the lamp of my body. If what I see is right and just and I share with others, it will be easy for them to come to the light and be saved. These are the reasons I walk in the light. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
John 3:21 But whoever lives by truth comes into the light so that they may see plainly what he has done has been done through God.
