My Firm Foundation

My Wondrous King, I give thanks that You have provided signs and miracles upon which I can build my faith. For it was You who removed the shackles that had me bound by sin and provided me with a safe passage to heaven. I acknowledge Your greatness because it was You who determined the size and shape of the earth … chose the orbit of the earth around the sun … scattered the stars and other celestial bodies across the sky to give the earth light at night … divided the land and water in exact proportions to fill the earth … created the plants, animals, and humans (who bear Your likeness) to inhabit the earth. It is through Your awesome power and great wisdom that all things were created … and that includes me. A life without You is empty and lacks meaning. It is Your love that made the first connection with me and it is my love for You that maintains the connection.

Without You being the solid foundation of my life, I am sure whatever I build will crumble and become worthless. The fact that You died for me means that I no longer live for myself but for You. Therefore, if I want to be in You, I must acknowledge You as my Redeemer and accept the fact that I have a new habitat in which to dwell. The Holy Spirit is the one who infuses me with newness of life and causes my old ways to pass away. I must begin immediately to build my new life using Your principles and teachings as my building materials. I have not been reformed, rehabilitated, or reeducated … I am a total new creature living in union with You. My conversion is not just the turning over of a new leaf, but the beginning of a new life under a new King. I no longer want to live my life pleasing myself, but spending my life living for You.

You have expressed the notion that hearing and putting into action Your words is the basis for establishing a strong foundation. You warn that those who hear Your words and do not put them into practice builds on a foundation that will not support a load. The minute such a structure comes under pressure it collapses and is destroyed. Obeying You is like building my life on a solid foundation that will withstand the storms of adversity when they come. When my life is calm, a strong foundation does not seem critical. But when crises come, the foundation upon which I have built my life will be tested. The benefits of a strong foundation come from knowing and trusting You. To save time or avoid hard work, some may not take the time to build a strong foundation, but they will regret that decision. I know that the time and effort I spend to build a sound foundation pays off. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

I Corinthians 3:11 For not man can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
