My Conquering King (Lenten Theme)

My Conquering King, the scriptures foretold of a Messiah who would suffer for the sins of all people.  When You came to fulfill that prophesy, most could not comprehend what was happening.  When I first heard the story of Your Father sending You … to suffer and die in my place for my sins … so I could gain eternal life … it was almost too good to be true.  It seemed inconceivable that I would be saved through a humble, suffering Savior rather than a powerful, conquering King.  Instead, You came in the form of an ordinary man, but there was nothing ordinary about You.  You showed me true strength through Your suffering, humility and mercy.  Only You can understand my weaknesses and give me the strength to endure them.  You saw that I was dead because of my fallen nature and sin so You gave me new life.   You could see the darkness I lived in so You shined in Your light so I could see and think clearly.

I am saddened by the fact that You had to experience being despised and rejected because of me.  I am disappointed that I caused You sorrow through my long list of failures.  It crushes me to think of the indescribable suffering You endured to free me from the power of sin, death and the eternal fires of Hell.  When I think about my choices to follow the ways of the world, the philosophies of carnal men and the pleasures of the flesh over You, I want to hide my face so I do not see Your disappointment.  I find myself in anguish when I think that men even to this day reject You and turn away from Your offer of love.  I have come to acknowledge my role in the pain and suffering caused by my sins.  I can’t forget that You gave up so much so that I could have so much more.  Your loving sacrifice has opened a door for me to experience joy, blessings, bounty, peace and safety.

It is still hard to grasp the fact that You actually bore the punishment for transgressions which You did not commit or deserve.  I no longer want to be a “lost sheep” who wanders away from Your love, care and protection.  I am thankful that You and Your Father had a plan that went beyond Your death.  For when You were raised from the dead, You overcame the powers of evil and brought hope to mankind.  In Your resurrection, You came forth a victorious and conquering King.  I now pledge my fidelity to Your reigning over my life and, as a result, I will reap all of the benefits of my servanthood.  I rejoice in the fact that You are a benevolent King who loves me with an unconditional love and patiently endures as I struggle with overcoming evil in my life.  I am proud to serve You, My Conquering King, and I plan to give You my best efforts.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Revelation 6:2 I looked, and there before me was a white horse!  Its rider had a bow and He was given a crown, and He rode out as a conqueror bent on conquering.
