O Most Generous and Compassionate Lord, I am so thankful for Your gift of time. It is as though You’ve given me two bank accounts. One is a finite account with a limited number of minutes in it which must be closely monitored and used wisely. The other is an infinite account with endless minutes filled with happiness, contentment and joy. The finite account was opened when I was born … is drawn down throughout my life … and, exhausted by the time I die. What I do with the minutes in my finite life are important to You, me and others. They were given so that I could know, love and serve You. They are meant to be used for good and not to be squandered. They are like the allowance I received as a child that was meant to teach me responsibility and how to manage a limited asset. Your gift of life is my allowance which allows me to achieve a return of eternal life. To the extent I manage my time on earth wisely will determine whether my infinite account is fully funded.
My life’s experiences have taught me many lessons about the use of my time. Just like a word spoken cannot be taken back … a moment that is wasted is lost forever. Since I’ve been given a limited amount of time to complete my life’s mission, I cannot waste any of it. For each moment that I waste or squander hinders my ability to complete the work You’ve assigned to me. Like sand passing through an hour glass, time slips by and is wasted if I am not attentive and focused on things that are important. I have come to understand that when death comes to make its call, even the best doctors in the world have no power to stop it. And, all of the material things that I spend time accumulating will be left behind when I leave this earth. Therefore, my primary focus must be on things above and not on the things of the earth.
I gladly accept Your gift of eternal life which is filled with an endless supply of minutes. My actions during my life will have a direct impact on my disposition in the life to come. My gift of eternal life is based on the price You paid to redeem it and my life, which follows, spent in submission to Your will. The concept of “forever” is hard for me to grasp but, for You who is all-knowing and all-powerful, it’s not hard for me to believe that such a gift is possible if I will believe. To the extent I handle my finite life in accordance with Your will determines how many of Your after-life blessings I will be given because I’ve been a “good and faithful servant”. So what I’ve come to conclude is that when I give my time, I’m giving away one of the most precious gifts I can give. As a consequence, I must be a good steward of Your gift of time. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
