O Perfect Lamb of God (Lenten Theme)

O Perfect Lamb of God, in the Old Testament (as prescribed in the law), each day a lamb was sacrificed in the Temple for the sins of the people.  As the Sinless Servant of Your Father, You offered Yourself as a perpetual sacrifice for my sins.  As my Sacrificial Lamb, You have set me free from the power of and penalties for my sins.  You suffered and died, bearing in Your body the suffering for my sins, so I could be made fit for Heaven.  The very thought of what You did for me should bring tears to my eyes and remorse to my heart.  Because of Your selfless act, I have been cleansed of the filth and stench brought on by sin.  What can I say about what You did … and, how do I give thanks for it?  By following the path to forgiveness … manifesting true sorrow and a resolve to not sin again … and, partaking in the perpetual refreshing that comes from confession and asking for Your mercy.

Not only are You the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, but You are My Good Shepherd … and, I am Your lamb.  Because sheep are completely dependent on their shepherd for provision, guidance and protection, I gladly embrace You as My Shepherd.  As one of Your flock, I look to You to supply all of my needs.  Because I’ve given myself to You, I am striving to become obedient to Your leading because I know You will lead me to the right places in the right ways.  As I allow You to guide me, I know I will find contentment.  To please You, I must come to believe that You know the best way to care for me and restore me when I become discouraged.  To rebel against You is to rebel against my own interest.  As My Shepherd, You function as my gate keeper keeping me safe.  You are the gateway to my salvation and I am forever indebted to You for watching out for me.

Since life is short and my good fortunes are yet unspecified, I need to seek You and follow Your voice whenever You speak to me through Your Word or the counsel of the Holy Spirit or the encouragement of other believers whom I trust.  I should be diligent in what I do with the things You’ve placed under my care.  To follow You, I must act with diligence in maintaining my relationship with You.  I should no longer separate myself from You and other believers to do my own thing … and, instead, stay close to You and the flock for safety and protection.  As Your “imperfect” lamb, I want to become adept at recognizing Your voice and obeying it rather than always going my own way.  I should always be excited to have You take over the reins of my life so that goodness and mercy can follow me all of my days.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Revelations 5:9 … You are worthy to take the scroll and to open the seals, because You were slain, and with Your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.
