Out of the Darkness Into the Light

Come forth, O Light of the World, and allow Your glory to shine upon Your people.  Wherever darkness lurks, You wait for the opportunity to shine Your light into the lives of those who perish without it.  Help me become a lamp shining Your light into a world drawing people to Your love and tender care.  Show me those whose eyes are filled with darkness so I can become a candle offering them the hope they so desperately need.  Your radiance has given life to my soul and joy to my heart.  I know You desire to give the same to others.  In Your love, I am able to find comfort, safety and prosperity.  You want to give the same things to those who will surrender themselves to You.  Show me how to be patient in waiting for Your timing in helping others who long for something but do not know it is You.  Help me not become discouraged when I look around and see so few people turning to You.

Although others have forsaken You and hate You, I will remain attentive and devoted.  For, instead of sorrow, You’ve given me joy … instead of guilt, You’ve given me forgiveness … instead of disdain, You’ve given me compassion … instead of emptiness, You given me a sense of fulfillment … and, instead of loneliness, You give me the assurance of Your continued faithfulness.  As I seek to deepen my relationship with You, the glow of Your light burns bright within me and I can clearly see the wisdom of Your ways.  When I surrendered myself to You, I became like a seed planted in good soil that grows into Your likeness and is able to share the fruit of Your love.  I’ve become a work of Your hands and I’m on display for the world to see … may I reflect You to all who look upon me.  As Your child, I’ve been called to share with others all that I know about You … and I am glad to do that.

In the same way that a star shone over the place where You were to be found, so do I want to shine forth a light that will draw others to You.  You came to bind up the brokenhearted … to proclaim freedom for the captives … to release those who were imprisoned by darkness … to comfort those who mourn … and, bring Joy and gladness to those who have lost their hope … now it is my turn.  In order to accomplish all of that, I must become devoted to Your Word and seek to understand it better.  As I do, it will be like turning up the wick in a lamp to cast forth a greater light that will allow me to see You more clearly.  I rejoice in the fact that You have covered my shame with Your blood and my disgrace with Your promises.  I am also thankful that You have brought me out of darkness into Your marvelous light.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

I Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.
