Most Gracious Lord, there are two kinds of people in the world. Those who trust in men and their governments and those who trust in You. Following false gods and alliances with men, instead of You, produces a futile and unfulfilled life. In Psalm One You tell me that if I trust You I will flourish like a tree planted by water. In times of trouble, those who trust in men and their governments will suffer loss and will become spiritually dead. They cannot draw strength from You. But those who trust in You will possess steadfast faith and an abundance of strength to resist evil and life’s circumstances. The supply will be ample for not only me, but the needs of others also. An unregenerated heart is infected with evil and it’s hard to cure but a submitted heart can be healed and given new life. I am comforted in the knowledge that You search out the heart and mind of each man to reward him according to his deeds.
Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed. Save me and I will be saved. Be my refuge and fear and worry will flee away. There is a right way and a wrong way to do any task. I must purpose in my heart to do everything Your way. In trusting You, I am being asked to turn away from self and the world, confess my sins, repent, and put You first in my life. If I do those things, You will bless me and stand by me. Help me not to forget that You are the potter and I am the clay. You have power over the clay and You work with it to turn it into a useful vessel. If anyone fails to repent, the clay will become hardened and cannot be shaped. I am going forward trusting in Your power to reshape my life and remove the defects. I must remain open and receptive to Your impact on my life. As I yield to You, You can reshape me into whatever vessel You had planned for me to be when I was given life.
Trust is the very essence of my faith in You and my love for You. In Your Word You tell me to trust in You with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding and to acknowledge You in all my ways and You will make straight my paths. Leaning implies putting all my weight into something … resting on and trusting in it. When I have an important decision to make I must put my trust in You because You know what is best for me and are a better judge of what I am really seeking. I should not omit careful thinking or my God-given ability to reason, but I should not trust only in my thinking to the exclusion of Yours. I should always be willing to listen to You and other wise Christian elders. I should always bring my needs to You in prayer, use the Bible as my guide and then follow where You lead me. If I trust in You, all my decisions will be wise ones. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
Psalm 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding.
