Responding to Your Call

My Steady Leader, Your sincerest yearning is for me to heed Your words and turn from my sins. You even had a plan in mind for my life long before I was born. If I get to the point where I become discouraged about my future, I must cling to the fact that You have always thought of me as valuable and my life having a purpose. In Your overall plan, when You created the world, You had unique roles for each of Your people to fill when they were given life. Whatever task I undertake for You should be done to bring You glory. If You assign me a particular role, I should accept it cheerfully and do it with zeal. If I am not able to identify a specific role You have for me, I should focus on fulfilling the missions given to all believers which ask for me to be obedient to You, act in love and serve You with all my strength. At some point, Your intention will become known to me and I should set out to do it.

Sometimes I struggle with responding to Your call because I lack self-confidence or I feel I do not have the abilities, training, or experiences needed to do the job. I shudder at being the one You ask to speak on Your behalf. Despite my apprehensions, I should not forget Your promise to always be with me and never ask me to do something I am not capable of doing. If I find myself avoiding what You’ve called me to do, I must not use my lack of confidence as an excuse for not responding. If You request that I do something for You, I must remain confident that You will provide me with all that I need to be successful. I must remember that Your promise to be with me means You will deflect any unwarranted barriers that keep me from being successful. You do not prevent me from encountering storms, but You promise to see me through them. I realize that in walking with You I can count on You to step in when I need help.

Your Word says that Your gifts and calling are irrevocable. The privileges and invitations You make can never be withdrawn. In reflecting on my calling, I should think about where I was when I accepted Your call. I was not wise nor influential nor hold a position of high esteem, but thanks to You … You chose the lowly in place of the esteemed … You chose the foolish to shame the wise … and You chose the weak to confound the strong. In responding to Your call, I have the assurance of victory through You. This is why I press on to the goal of attaining the prize for which I was called. In responding to my call, I must not dwell on the past but on what You are helping me become through what I’ve been asked to do. To be worthy of my calling, I must strive to do what is right and good in Your sight. While not being perfect, each call made on my life moves me closer to becoming like You. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

Ephesians 1:18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened that you may know the hope of your calling.
