The Goodness of God

My Sovereign King, You were sent into the world by Your Heavenly Father to show His mercy and grace. He would dispense them on those who surrendered their lives to Your “Lordship.” His blessings have included: Encouraging those who were poor in spirit … healing those with broken hearts … proclaiming freedom to those held captive by sin … releasing those held in darkness by shining Your light into their lives … comforting those who mourn … making Your people feel cherished and loved … rebuilding lives destroyed by drugs, alcohol and destructive relationships … suppling the need of those found to be needy … bringing joy to those engulfed in sorrow … and giving hope to those who had lost theirs. It is Your benevolence, holiness and loving-kindness that are integral parts of Your divine character and Godly attributes which make You so special.

Your mission was to meet people’s needs and bring them closer to their God. You have drawn me closer through reading Your Word and striving to put it to work in my life so that a doorway to Your goodness could be opened. Your desire is to fill my life with goodness and hope and not fear and frustration. When I suffer, I do so because of my own mistakes or the mistakes of others. When I suffer because of my own mistakes, I can find my way back to You by searching within Your word for answers and then doing what it instructs me to do. Because of Your kindness, You never allow me to suffer more than I can stand. Regardless of how bad things get; You are always with me and watch over me with loving kindness. You fill my life with good things reflecting Your compassions, mercy, and love. You have said in Your Word that every good gift comes from God and, as a result, I should treasure each one.

Your words are right and true and can be trusted. Unlike people who can be temperamental, heartless, and self-centered, Your attitude is one of compassion, kindness, and tender heartedness. Because of Your unconditional love, You never let Your promises go unfulfilled. You are not just the coordinator of events in my life, but You fill it with Yourself and good things. I am reminded that as I draw near to You, You will draw near to me and I will experience Your goodness firsthand. I am reassured by Your words telling me that “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord who has compassion for you.” I acknowledge that I do not deserve Your forgiveness, but in Your loving kindness You have provided a way for me to escape the hold that sin and death had on my life. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

Psalm 117:2 For great is Your love for us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
