Most Precious Lord, when I feel lost and my life has been turned upside down, I yearn to hear the comforting whisper of Your voice. When my mind is devoid of Your reassuring words, the bird’s songs seem flat and harsh, the beauty and smell of blooming flowers go unnoticed and the blue sky looks dull and grey. I feel trapped in a cage with no way to escape. My mind spins in confusion and my outlook becomes hopeless. But in the midst of these trying times, when I hear the soft whisper of Your voice, I begin to settle down and feel at peace. I perk up as I listen attentively for more of what You want to share with me because Your words take away my heaviness and lift my spirit. I urge myself to be still and quiet so that I do not miss a word of what You have to say. I know that if I stop and listen intently, I will hear the message You have for me alone. Help me learn to distinguish between Your soft, gentle voice and the worldly turmoil and the self-generated thoughts that crowd my mind.
I have lots of reasons to become a good listener because You have a lot of wisdom to share with me. In You resides all of the solutions I will ever need … the plans for a life filled with joy and fulfillment … and, a bounty of good things to enhance my life. I want to become like Mary, sitting at Your feet, absorbing every word You speak. I need Your guidance in running the race You’ve appointed for me. I have come to understand that You not only speak through Your own words, but those spoken by others and the lessons of life that I learn from my experiences and the things that go on around me. In bestowing Your goodness upon me, You send an unspoken message about the depth of Your love and concerns for me. It is in a multitude of witnesses that You cause me to flourish through sound advice and the examples of practical living that I experience.
Each day You build me up as I delve into Your Holy Word and receive the ongoing instruction of the Holy Spirit. Each time Your Word takes hold in my life, I know You are training me to use the tools You offer to advance my life. As I read Your Word, I hear the Story-Teller explaining the things I need to know and what is expected of me. Your voice, whispered in my heart, reassures me and encourages me to become more like You. In Your words, I find everything that is appropriate for my maturity and growth because Your words are timeless and help me develop strength, confidence and perseverance. As I encounter You in everything I do, Your promises become more real and I see more clearly the good You have in store for me. When I make time to spend with You, I am able to see the tenderness You have for me and the things You want to do to improve my life. I know that my life will be enriched as I remain attentive to the whispers of your voice. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
