My Omnipotent God, it is sad to watch as society decays all around me. I’m sure it makes You sad too. Politicians seek bribes and give favors, judges twist the law to meet their own beliefs, and corruption is everywhere. I cling to Your promise to lead me out of the darkness associated with sin into the marvelous light of Your truth. It is hard to find upright people in government or business anymore. Honesty and integrity are not character traits of our leaders. Many people rationalize sin, and even Christians sometimes compromise Your principles to do what they want. It is easy to convince ourselves that we deserve a few breaks, especially when “everyone else” is doing it. But the standards for honesty and uprightness come from You and not society. If anyone is upright it is because they practice the truths You teach. When I accept Your truths and the tutoring of the Holy Spirit, I become more like You.
Sin has been accepted as “normal” by our leaders and society in general. Deceit and dishonesty flourish to the detriment of those who serve You. That leaves our whole society open to Your judgement and I feel like we are moving closer to it day by day. Only through a purifying revival can we be drawn back to You and be restored to Your favor. Despite all the negatives around me, I must pray faithfully and wait patiently for Your purifying actions. I must trust that You will bring Your people through when the times get tough. I must remain patient to allow You to bring as many out of darkness into the light as possible. Help me strengthen my relationship with You so I can have confidence and hope about my future. You do not require a lot … faith in You and a willingness to obey Your commands. When darkness comes to engulf me, I must stand in faith because I know You are faithful to Your promises.
You delight in showing repentant hearts Your mercy. You do not forgive grudgingly but are happy when I repent and want to draw closer to You. I am thankful that anyone who confesses their sins will receive Your loving forgiveness. I should never be too proud to ask for and receive what You freely want to give to me. In an age where religion is dying and making little difference in people’s lives, I know You can draw wayward sinners back to You because all things are possible if they believe in You. Your expectation of me is that I will be fair in my dealings with people, show mercy to others the way You have shown mercy to me, and humbly walk in Your ways. In a world that is sinful and unjust, I must shine Your light as I allow You to work in me. Only when I walk in accordance with Your ways will I be able to affect the world around me. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
John 16:33 “… In the world you will have tribulations but be of good cheer I have overcome the world.”
