O Loving God, show me how to be a good example … speaking words of love and encouragement … acting with integrity and character … and, doing to others as I want them to do to me. When others think of me, I want them to see You … recognizing a life of service and a powerful example of compassion and morality. I want my daily life to be based on a deep love and devotion to You and a desire to think of others more highly than I do of myself. I know that as I walk uprightly, I will please You and I will become a force for good in a world filled with evil. I know there are many desperate and hurting people who need a positive influence in their lives … so here I am Lord. I accept the fact that in my struggle to be a “good example” I will encounter forces pulling on me to abandon You and Your truths. Help me resist the easy ways of evil. For if I resist its temptations, You will provide me with the courage and strength to persevere in righteousness. If I can show those around me a better way, they will want to follow it.
I know that Your Kingdom is not built on a foundation of lies but on power, love and sound reasoning. Therefore, as I am able to lay aside every weight, constraint and sin that holds me back, I trust that You will enable me to run the race You have appointed for me in faith, with endurance. As I succeed, others will want to know how I was able to do it and I will be able to tell them of Your loving compassion and caring for their well-being. I truly want to be an example to others in word and deed … doing everything, as You did, in loving service. I will strive to comply with what You’ve asked of me without quibbling or grumbling. I once was lost in darkness but, now due to the light I received from knowing You, I am able to walk as a child of the light reflecting Your goodness, truth and righteousness.
If I truly love You, it will show in my life. I want that love to show up in everything I say or do. There is no way for me to become Godly overnight but, like a tree, I want to grow in stature so I can give shade to those who need relief from the heat in their daily lives. I want the sermon of my life to preach more powerfully than any words I might speak. Help me practice what I know in my heart is the right way to live so that others can see it and emulate it. You have given me Your Holy Spirit to guide me into truth but, I know that even with His help, it will not happen overnight. Help me be faithful and persevering with regard to my pursuit of Your Word. The best evidence of the reality of Your truths is by walking in them. I know that the best way to be an example is to be real, humble and involved with people. I know what the world needs is more people who are willing to a be positive role model … so help me be a living example of You and Your love. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
