Maturity Is My Goal

I praise You, My King, for through Your wondrous works marvelous things have been done.  Your love has motivated me to show kindness to strangers; have empathy for the poor and forgotten; seek justice for the abused and mistreated; have respect for my marriage vows; and, find contentment in Your many blessings.  As Your child, I’ve been made an ambassador for You to the world.  It is You who has set me free from the powers of evil and shown me how to be content with what I have.  I am able to dwell in Your peace as I strive for less rather than more; give rather than expecting to receive; enjoy what I have rather than resent what I do not have.  I am reminded that money and things all pass away, but the truths contained in Your words never lose their power and stand forever.  I feel like I’m maturing when I can stand knowing that You are sufficient to meet all of my needs.

I owe so much to You and all of those who have shown me how to reshape my thinking and actions to conform to Your will.  I know that I will not go astray if I follow Your leading and the good examples of my Christian brothers and sisters.  Human beings change, but You never change … You are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  Though others may help me in my walk, I must never take my eyes off of You.  In a changing world, You are the “Rock” upon which I can build my life.  I know that if I really want to change, it will only happen when I allow the Holy Spirit to guide me in the ways of Your truth.  My love must run so deep that I would leave behind everything to come and follow You.  To attain the goals You’ve set for me, I must be willing to leave my comfort zone and endure all manner of tribulations for the sake of Your Kingdom.

Show me how to detach myself from the world because everything in the world is temporary and fleeting.  Only my relationship with You will help me through the tests of time to which I will be subjected.  My efforts should not be devoted to the building up of treasures here, rather, ones that are eternal.  My greatest desire must be to grow into the stature of the person You want me to become.  I want to move past being a passive hearer of Your Word and become an active doer of it.  I do not want to strive to make my life comfortable, but to become one that is filled with faith and action.  I want to join my Christian brothers and sisters in advancing Your Kingdom.  May my life be filled with so much praise and prayer that I am able to see Your call on my life more clearly.  My greatest aim in life is to mature and become more like You.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

I Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I talked as a child, I thought as a child, I reasoned as a child.  But, when I became a man, I put childish things behind me.
