My Lamp of Learning

Most Omniscient God, one thing that I’ve learned from life is that I don’t know everything I need to know to be successful.  What I’ve realized is that, when I turn to You, I learn all I need to know about attaining knowledge and discipline … growing in my understanding of words and their meaning …  mastery of doing what is right, just and fair … and, becoming prudent and insightful in matters of life.  The best way to increase in Your wisdom is to listen to what You say, discern the truths contained in Your words and use them to guide me in making decisions.  A large part of my success is dependent on developing an awe and profound reverence for You and allowing myself to trust You in learning new things that will cause me to prosper and succeed.  By listening to You, and those who have a close relationship with You, I will be taught, guided and pointed in the direction of better days.

Your wisdom is a lamp unto my feet teaching me the principles in which I should walk and judgements I should use to make good choices.   Reward my search for knowledge as I spend time with You and Your Word.  Help me uncover truths that will set me free and bring me into a closer unity with You.  In the light radiated by Your truth, I will flourish, learn and grow.  My greatest desire is for Your words to shape me into the person You want me to become.  Through Your tutoring, I’ll learn how to walk in righteousness, become conformed into Your likeness, live a life of service in Your church, give witness to Your saving power and bear good fruit.  Through the illumination of Your light, I am able to see my way toward Your will and the hope of a better life.  Help me in my search for peace, justice and purity.  Your light is like a choir director, leading me in doing the things that bring You honor, me prosperity and others encouragement.

By accepting Your teachings, I can learn all sorts of valuable things.  Why is it then that I languish as a fool … confused about so many things?  Because I know that if I turn away from my distractions and the darkness, do a thorough examination of my conscience, repent from evil-doing and accept Your correction, then my relationship with You will be restored.  As I receive Your words … store them in my heart … use them when I am confounded … my life will have more ups than downs.  For Your promises to the Children of Light are that You will give them discretion to protect them, understanding to guard them, guidance in walking uprightly, lessons in avoiding darkness and perseverance to get them through their toughest times.  Because of all of these wonderful benefits, I know I must turn to You, as my lamp of learning, whenever I want my life to move in the right direction.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Psalm 119:73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn Your commandments.
