Most Kind and Generous King, the things that I show to others as my earthly successes lose their glow when they do not glorify You. Now that I think of them, they are empty and worthless when contrasted against Your blessings and grace. In comparing my accomplishments against Your love and all that comes from it … they seem inconsequential and unimportant in the bigger scheme of things. Riches, titles and prestige fade away and the pleasures derived from them are fleeing when I consider them against the magnitude of Your undying love for me. If everything I have is taken from me, the reality is that I have the unending gift of Yourself. To find such a gift is like finding a treasure of great value too great for me to consider paying. Accept my humble and broken heart and fill me with hope and give purpose to my life. There is nothing more fulfilling for me than to share in Your life and love.
You have entered my heart with the hope that I will surrender to You completely and take up my cross to follow after You. Your goal has never been to take from me, but to give me more. Teach me how to live unselfishly like You do. Create in me a pure heart and renew in me a steadfast spirit. Help me discover ways to show You how much You mean to me. My desire is to please You and make You proud of the things that I do. I need You to be my hiding place where I can run when life wears me down and circumstances begin to overtake me. In the warmth of Your love, I am re-vitalized and energized to do the things You ask of me. I rely on Your companionship to get me through my hard times. I want to learn Your ways so I can find the pathway to an unconditional love like Yours … thinking of others more highly than myself.
O Gracious Lord, come to me in a way that will help me become more like You. When pain and sorrow come to steal my joy, send Your love to minister to me. In Your mercy, forgive my weaknesses and failings and show me the peace I can experience with a clean conscious. My whole life is in Your hands, make of it what You wish so I can be empowered to do the work You brought me to earth to fulfill. When I see others, I want to see Your face so I can serve them in humility. And, when they see my face, I want them to see You and the love You have for them. Your Word tells me that “no greater love can a man have for another than to lay down his life for him.” You did that for me. I want to live unselfishly so I can do the same for others. Your Word also proclaims that You are Love … so the closer I draw to You, the more I become a creation of love. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
