Prevailing Prayer

Most Devoted Savior, You encourage me to keep the doors of communication open between us and to freely make my needs known to You.  My prayers are an expression of my feelings and awareness of Your awesome power and infinite wisdom.  Important ingredients in the success of my prayers are faith in You and my acknowledgement that Your powers are greater than those of mortal men.  As such You can intervene in the natural order of things to accomplish the seemingly impossible that is not within the realm of anyone’s abilities.  In praying, I must maintain a contrite heart, a clear conscious, a belief in Your concern for me and a willingness to submit to Your will.  I am most likely to turn to You in prayer when I have needs that need to be met … or desire to fellowship/commune with You … or need to confess my sins and faults … or express my thanks and praise to You.

My prayers must be fervent to show You the magnitude of my need, the importance of my request and my dependence on You to help me persevere while awaiting an answer.  I need to solicit Your wisdom and direction in handling my problems.  With the help of the Holy Spirit, I can see more clearly what to ask for … gain a clearer understanding of Your will … and discern the truths upon which to base my requests.  I must make asking in Your name a part of my praying.  As my High Priest You can offer my prayers wrapped in the incense of Your sacrificial blood.  As my Advocate no one can plead my case better than You before the Heavenly Father?  I realize that my prayers must be offered in humility, acknowledging my need, my helplessness, and my unworthiness.  In so doing, I receive the assurance of Your love and become convinced that You will respond to my need.

I should think of my prayers as an opportunity to climb a mountain of holiness, into Your presence.  The higher I go, the closer to You I come.  In order to effectively commune with You, I must leave behind my everyday world.  The mountain, of course, is in my mind where I climb to the place where I am comfortable and close to You.  In the depths of my prayers, the light of Your presence illuminates me to my core where I can experience Your love and goodness.  As Your holiness radiates throughout my whole being, I am energized to overcome sin, bask in the balm of Your forgiveness, and feel empowered to walk uprightly.  I need Your help in becoming not only a hearer of Your Word but a doer.  Show me the way to immerse myself more deeply into You character through prevailing prayer and, in so doing, begin to pray for the right things in the right way.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Psalm 102:1-2 Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry for help come to You.  Do not hide Your face from me when I am in distress.  Turn Your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.
