Sin, Satan, and You

Most Righteous Son of God, You are the very epitome of everything that is not sin. I commit sin when I fall away from or miss the right path. The sinfulness in what I do is the fact that I do it to resist You and Your expressed will. Sin thrives in my ego, selfishness, and rebelliousness. In its simplest form, sin is displayed in disobedience to the commands of the One to whom I owe obedience. It is like a cancer that eats away at my whole being. You have warned me to avoid sin because one sin leads to another. Then from there I fall into a downward spiral that can only be stopped by repentance and the power of the Holy Spirit to change my actions. When I choose the way of sin You may not immediately do anything to stop me … letting me believe I have gotten away with something … but You do not approve of what I have done. What I deserve will come in time.

The Prince of the World is Satan, an angel who rebelled against You. He is real and is constantly working to pull me away from You by urging my disobedience. Satan has much power, but I have been delivered from his Kingdom of Darkness because of Your victory on Calvary. Satan is powerful and seductive, but You are more powerful and much wiser. To overcome his deceptions and seductions, I must maintain a close connection to You, develop a faithful allegiance to Your word, purpose in my heart to avoid sin, and get help from fellow believers and the Holy Spirit. I must learn to walk by the light of Your leading or darkness will overtake me. With You, I know where I am going. If I follow the enemy of my soul, I will live in a fog not knowing where I am or where I am going. As I put my trust in Your light, I become a child of light with a pathway ahead.

As my Savior You came down from Heaven to save me from the consequences of my sins and release me from the power of sin and death. You did not only talk a good story You walked in the ways I am to follow. You learned obedience through Your death on a cross and I will learn obedience through my death to sin and self. I must become so committed to living for You that I “hate” my worldly life in comparison to the one You have for me. This does not mean I should walk around with a death wish but I must actively strive to die to self and selfish desires and behaviors. I must break the hold that self-centeredness has on me. By setting aside my striving to be something in the world, my security, and my pleasure, I am free to serve You and others. I have concluded that there is no place for sin and Satan in my life … only You. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

Revelation 12:11 They overcame him (the Devil) by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
