Standing Against Evil

O Saving Lord, You caution Your people to always be aware and vigilant of the ongoing presence of our enemy because he stalks us like a ravenous lion. Your way to resist the attack of such an enemy is to stand on faith. You assure me that if I submit myself to You, he will recognize Your power in me, and like the coward he is, will flee from me. I must remain strong in You and Your power if I am to resist him. I should not overlook the armor You’ve left for me to do battle with him. It consists of … the breastplate of righteousness … my feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace … my waist girded in truth … the helmet of salvation … the shield of faith … and, the sword of the Spirit, which is Your Word … of which there is no force that can resist them. Because of Your covering, You have released me from the bondage of fear and worry.

By Your death, burial and resurrection, You have disarmed principalities and powers … overcoming them all. I have been delivered from the stranglehold of darkness and been brought into Your Kingdom. No longer do I have to stand in my own strength and wisdom because I’ve been made complete in You. Through Your saving blood, I’ve been enabled to proclaim with boldness the power You have wrought in me. In Your power and might, I am now able to resist the enticements and luring of my enemy. I must not become complacent or neglectful in my vigilance for my enemy because his wiles are dangerous and targeted. I must test every word that I hear to insure that it does not draw me away from You and in the direction of sin. Because I’ve committed myself to You, I know I’ve made a commitment to the One who is greater than he who is in the world.

And these signs shall follow those who believe: In Your name they shall be able to cast out demons; they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover; they will be able to detect and resist the temptations of the devil; and, they will be protected from sneak attacks by the evil one who wishes to do them harm. And even though I walk in the flesh, I should not go to war against evil in the flesh. For the weapons that I must use are not man-made but those prescribed by You. Only Your weapons can pull down the strongholds I will face. I know I can count on You to brush aside every deceptive tactic of my enemy and bring him into captivity by Your guidance and strength. You are my stronghold in the middle of battle that I run to for safety. It is Your power and the Word that abides in me which enable me to overcome the wicked one. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

I John 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them (those who do evil), because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
