The Lord is My Helper

Most Merciful Lord, living for You in a cruel and evil world makes it difficult to fight evil.  It is reassuring to know that I am never alone when facing difficult times.  Because I believe that You love me, I look to You to protect me and keep me from harm.  By counting on You, I never have to wonder if You are close and will come quickly to my aid whenever I call for help.  I have been disappointed in the past when I counted on others to come and help me, but You have always been there for me.  I am confident that I will see Your goodness manifested in my life as I stand firm in faith, do not become fearful about being abandoned and wait patiently for Your deliverance.  You are the source of my strength and I trust in You alone.  It is through Your mercy that I am able to find relief from my troubles.  You have taken away my sadness and given me joy to boost my hope.

I wait each day for Your watchful eyes and steadying hands to keep me safe.  When trouble invades my life, I know that You alone possess the strength to overcome anything that tries to subdue me.  It is sometimes difficult to wait patiently for You to act when what I want is an immediate answer.  But, You have promised that, if I submit to Your will and timing, You will respond to my requests.  It was Peter, who in the scriptures admonished me to “humble myself, therefore, under the mighty hand of God and, in due time, He will lift you up.”  If I am to remain patient, continue in the work to which I’ve been called, and allow You to pick the best time to intervene … I know that all things will work together for my good.  I will be the first to admit that I am weak and needy, so come quickly to my aid.

I must never forget Your promise that nothing can separate me from Your love.  I should never let fear overwhelm me because You are faithful in delivering me from my trials.  Your Word reminds me that You are “my refuge and strength and an ever-present help in times of trouble” … so why should I succumb to fear and worry?  No matter what I face, I will maintain a quiet confidence in Your ability to achieve what I perceive as impossible.  You are my refuge to whom I can retreat while my strength is renewed.  Because my life is embedded in Yours, I will always have hope.  A hope that springs forth from Your faithfulness and concern for me.  Peter once stated “Lord to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.  We believe and know that You are the Holy One of God.”  I believe this also and that is why I will always count on You to be my Helper.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen!!
