Walking By Faith

My Glorious Savior, with my hand grasping tightly to Yours, I am learning to walk by faith and not by what I see.  My steps are shaky and my knees are knocking, but I find strength as I glance upward at Your beaming faith.  Every step that I take is with Your encouragement and support.  Learning to walk by faith presents me with many challenges, but I’ve made up my mind that I will master the task.  As I undertake each uncertain step, I bump up against the challenges of daily life but I’m determined to not let myself get knocked off stride.  When I step out in faith, I encounter thoughts of uncertainty and fear that try to thwart the taking of my next step forward.  As I learn to walk by faith, I carefully place one foot in front of the other as I follow Your lead through whatever adversity I must face.  My faith in You is the substance of everything I hope for and becomes the substance of things I cannot yet see as completed.

True disciples have always had to learn how to walk by faith … it is not a skill that we are born knowing how to do.  Even the heroes of faith – Noah, Moses, Joshua, David, Paul – had to learn by walking the walk.  Therefore, I am not alone as I learn to walk in Your footsteps.  And, it is not easy to walk with You when everyone else is headed in the opposite direction … yet I know that if I will persist in my walk with You that my yoke will become sweet and my burden light.  Every first step in faith is fraught with shakes and wobbles that come from emotional stress and worry.  Like a young child is strengthened by the grip of his father’s hand, my walk in faith is supported by Your strong grip as well.

As I begin to step out in faith to follow You with my cross, I’m sure my steps will be wobbly and unsure … not because of my doubting that You will be there to steady me … but more related to my fear of losing hold of Your hand.  I know that my apprehension will fade away as I come to understand that it is not my holding on to Your hand that will determine my success, rather, that You are the One holding me firmly in Your grasp.  The strength and courage that I need to walk by faith throughout my life will always have it origins in You.  Even though my life of faith will have its share of bumps, scrapes, bruises and tears, I know You will help me in navigating around the obstacles and pitfalls I will face.  The thing that I know for sure is that You will always take hold of my hand and lead me when I submit myself to You.  Lord, give me the courage to believe You for all of the things that I need without first seeing … knowing that You speak the truth.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

II Corinthians 5:7 We live by faith, not by sight.
