Wanting More of You

Help me, O Glorious Savior, to handle the multitude of stresses, struggles and enticements that I must deal with each day.  Close the door to temptation and let Your goodness come through.  My desire is to learn more about You and the principles by which I am to live.  Preserve me so I can serve You more.  Put an end to my wanderings so I can be true to You alone.  Open Your heart to me so I can be drawn to it and become more like You.  No longer do I want to dwell in darkness and, instead, bask in Your marvelous light.  I no longer want to crumble under the pressure of stress and trials, but walk in the power of Your might.  I do not want to become a shrinking violet when it comes to sharing You with others.  I want to be like You and radiate Your goodness to all.  Wrap me in Your arms and keep my thoughts and actions pure.  Teach me how to walk in Your promises and grow in my faith.

Every question I have … You have an answer.  Every lack I have … You have my supply.  How then do I get more of You?  I believe that in order to get more … I must give more.  I must find or make time to spend in dialogue with You … reading Your Word and meditating on it … humbling myself and realizing I am nothing without You.  I must not only be a hearer of the things You say, but a doer of them … because much understanding comes from walking in them.  I must yield to the illuminating glow of the Holy Spirit in dealing with my problems.  I know that with His guidance I will be able to ask for my true needs.  I must also be open and honest with You and able to receive correction.  I must learn the lessons of faithful service … cheerful giving … and, dying to self.  And, I must put forth the effort required to remove every false god and put You on the throne of my life.

You admonish me in Your Word to trust You and lean not on my own understanding.  Leaning, in the context of this scripture, conveys a sense of putting my reliance on my abilities and trusting in myself to resolve problems.  In truth, You have a far better way of achieving success.  To become more like You, I must make myself vulnerable to You and trust that Your ways are the best.  I can no longer be wise in my own eyes to the exclusion of listening to You and doing what You say.  As I bring my needs to You in prayer … use Your Word as my guide … and, follow Your directions … my path will be made clear  and Your protective blanket will cover me wherever I go.  I know I’ll draw closer to You if I yield to Your authority … avoid the enticements of the Devil … purge myself of bad behaviors … and, have true sorrow for my sins.  Only then can I be filled with more of You.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

James 4:7-8 Submit yourselves, then, to God … come near to God and He will come near to you.

  1. This really spoke to us as we find ourselves leaning on our own experience, opinions and selfish desires rather than TRUSTING God and acknowledging His ways in all things. We liked this from the prayer…..”You admonish me in Your Word to trust You and lean not on my own understanding. Leaning, in the context of this scripture, conveys a sense of putting my reliance on my abilities and trusting in myself to resolve problems. I can no longer be wise in my own eyes to the exclusion of listening to You and doing what You say. As I bring my needs to You in prayer … use Your Word as my guide … and, follow Your directions … my path will be made clear and Your protective blanket will cover me wherever I go.”
