When All I’ve Got Is Hope

Most Assuring Lord, since turmoil and uncertainty awaits me around every corner, I must cling to the hope I have in You.  At times I find myself tempted to just throw my hands up in exasperation and that’s when I feel my hope slipping away.  But something inside of me says … don’t give up … you’ll make it out of this.  It is my hope in You that gives me the chance of escaping my turmoil.  As I come to see that living in a sinful world filled with suffering, heartaches and pain is where my obstacles come from, You are the only one I know I can turn to for real help.  Instead of giving up, I must give my burdens, fears and the uncertainty surrounding my future over to You … the author and finisher of my faith.  You promised You will never leave me and, as long as You are with me, there is no reason to lose hope.  Even when things seem hopeless, You never give up and, because I am a follower, neither should I.

When uncertainty blocks my future, I must remember that You are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  If You’ve stood by me in the past, Your unchanging nature would not let you abandon me in the middle of my troubles today.  Your Word continually reminds me not to fear or give up.  The answer is simple … it’s because You are with me at all times and You are willing and able to deliver me from my cares.  As we build our relationship, I am comforted and consoled by Your love.  Sorrow and burdens are pushed away as You help me change my attitudes and ways.  In Your loving arms, what starts out as gloom and doom, turns into hope and promise.  I know that my outlook will change as I pray, walk humbly with You, begin doing what is right and open myself to Your message of hope.  I gladly turn over my fears, worries and concerns to You for handling.

When I am surrounded by evil and darkness, it is Your light alone that gives me hope.  For it is in the glow of Your revelations that I begin to envision a way forward or see solutions to my problems become clear.  What seemed impossible in my worldly wisdom becomes possible through Yours.  Because You reflect all goodness, the hope I receive from You brings with it the expectation that something good will happen for me.  You are the object of my hope because in You resides my safety, prosperity and the ability to overcome.  You are my hope because I know You can and will deliver me from trouble and harm.  The foundation upon which I base my hope is found in Your death, burial and resurrection which have assured me of an eternal life spent with You.  In You, I find my purpose and joy which in turn fills me with hope.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!
