Wisdom and Understanding

All Knowing God, having You in my life has opened a door to Your wisdom, power and counsel.  The only way that I can truly become wise is by possessing a deep love and respect for You because you alone are the source of all wisdom.  Life experiences and academic learning alone cannot achieve prosperity and meaning for my life.  Without You, my foundation for making good decisions is shaky and I am prone to making mistakes and bad choices.  As Your servant, I need discernment to help me in understanding Your wishes and commands.  With discernment, my faith comes to life and I can see the path I need to take in accomplishing my daily tasks and resolving my problems.  Reading Your Word acts like a medicine going to work to heal the bumps and bruises incurred during daily living.  Getting insights from You helps me become alert for lessons, commands and examples that I can put into practice.

My motivation in seeking Your wisdom and understanding is centered on gaining insights into Your will and Your ways … developing better self-control … doing what is right, just and fair … being prudent in the use of all You’ve given to me … and, learning how to deal with evil.  I’ve come to see that in this day and time knowledge is plentiful but wisdom is in short supply.  The bedrock of useful knowledge comes from honoring/respecting You … living in awe of Your power and commitment … and obeying all of Your commands.  Faith and trust in You is critical to developing proper attitudes and living righteously.  By trusting You, I accept the things that You stand for and open myself to the reception of Your wisdom.  I know that if I cry out to You for understanding, You will bless me with all I need to know in order to be successful.

In Your Word, You encourage me to get wisdom and gain understanding.  And, You’ve promised that if I do not forsake wisdom … she will protect me … and, if I love her … she will watch over me.  Growing in Godly wisdom requires resolve and determination on my part.  It involves a daily process of choosing rightly between good and evil.  There is nothing more important or valuable than having “Your mind” before I make any decision.  In order to prosper, I must abandon my simple ways and walk in Your ways.  Attaining Godly wisdom is my path to happiness, good health and prosperity.  When I am guided by Your wisdom it obliterates the effects of bad choices.  Through the gift of free will, You’ve given me the choice of enlightenment or being dragged down by my foolishness.  That is why I need Your wisdom and understanding to insure a productive life.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Proverbs 2: 3/5 … if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding … then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
