Becoming More Patient

My Benevolent Savior, an important part of adopting a character like Yours is developing patience. This applies to waiting for answers to my prayers, implementing a character like Yours and my treatment of others. It is easy to be patient when things are going according to my plans. However, true patience surfaces when I deal calmly with things or situations that prove more challenging. It is at such times that I must dig down deep and seek Your help in calming my nerves. I must come to grips with the fact that everyone learns in different ways and at different speeds. In return for the patience that You show to me, I owe You my faith and devotion. Having faith in You gives me the internal strength to face anything with the utmost of patience. A life filled with You is filled with love and much patience and, like You, I must strive to be patient and kind to others.

I have every incentive to be patient because, in You, I have nothing to worry about because You are always with me and ready to help me deal with all my fears. Whenever I need something (like patience) I should turn to You in prayer. My mantra and way of life must become “be kind, be patient, and do good” – then I will have laid the groundwork for Your work in me. My patience needs to be extended to those who dislike me or treat me unfairly because by undergoing such trials I become more like You. I know that if I can master patience, I am more likely to diffuse a volatile situation that may have lasting effects in my life. Whenever I feel impatient is the time I must turn to You and let You guide me through the situation I am facing. To hear Your instructions, I must be quiet and focus on Your love and desire to help me.

In venturing into the development of more patience I may have initial excitement, but it is the journey to the end of the process that is the most fulfilling. It is easier to act in love with patience if I act as if there is no tomorrow. If I let my temper take control of a situation, I am more likely to make a mistake. My best approach is to calm myself and turn the situation over to You. If I believe what You say and act on it through faith and patience, You will be inclined to fill my life with good things. I must believe with all my heart that You are my fierce defender so I can lay low and let God. Forgiving others takes patience, humbleness and kindness which can only come through You. You are loving, patient, forgiving and kind to me and that’s the way I should act toward others. In the end it is patience and self-control that puts me over the top and not charging ahead. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

I Corinthians 13:4-5 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
