Depending On You

In You, O Lord, I take refuge from the attacks of the evil one and the enticements of the world. I know that You will protect me from them and lead me in paths of righteousness. I believe that I can count on You to listen for my cries and respond quickly to rescue me. You are the Rock on whom I stand and the Fortress to whom I run when danger approaches. Because You stand by Your own, I trust that You will lead and guide me into a victorious future. I know that You can guide me around the traps that have been set to ensnare me. You have freed me to make my own decisions and reward me when I get them right. I have put my life in Your hands and trust that You have redeemed me from the punishment that is due for my sins. I know that when You see my afflictions and understand the anguish of my soul, You will come to comfort me. I can count on You to deliver me from any harm that comes my way.

I hate the things promoted by the world that are intended to lead me away from You. I stand on Your promise to watch over me and protect me from them. When I am tired from the struggles in my daily life, I am confident that You will come at just the right time to take my burdens upon Yourself and relieve me of my labors. Sometimes I find myself consumed with anguish and my afflictions drain my will to go on. When others tend to withdraw their support, I rely on Your promise to never leave or forsake me to get me through. I have put myself in Your hands knowing You are faithful and will bring joy and purpose into my life. I count on Your watching over me and the perpetual love You have for Your own to keep me strong. I understand that I am undeserving of Your love but, through Your mercy, I know I can depend on You to help me get back on my feet when I mess up.

I find strength and hope in You alone. Knowing I am forgiven and Your love abounds toward me is what keeps me hopeful and inspires me to be more like You. Knowing that You love me and care about what happens to me enables me to remain faithful regardless of the circumstances I face. Because You are righteous and tender-hearted, I believe that Your intent is to shelter me from ungodly things. Help me stay away from worldly idols … wealth, status, possessions, alcohol, and drugs … that try to entice me to abandon Your blanket of protection. When I feel constrained by Your expectations, help me realize that it is You who set me free from myself with its selfish desires and called me to be Your very own. I want to understand Your ways better and depend on You more to help me achieve the goals that You have set out for my life. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

Psalm 31:5 Into Your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O Lord, the God of truth.
