My Rock and My Fortress, keep me safe as I take refuge in You. You are the only one in whom I feel safe and cared for. Apart from You, no lasting good can come into my life. My delight in You comes from Your faithfulness to me and the sacrifice You made to save me from the clutches of the Devil. I feel saddened for those who make their possessions, power, influence, and the ways of the world as the center of their life. You have shared Yourself and Your inheritance with me and I am forever grateful for them. Your only request is that I stay within the bounds of Your calling and love. If I obey You, I will reap all the benefits of being one with You. I rely on Your counsel to instruct me in the ways of righteousness. And I seek Your light to guide me into places of safety. In You I have taken my stand and I will remain there in faith.
It is human nature to want to make my own plans and then ask You to bless them. My first reaction should be to seek You first. By turning to You and Your ways, I will gain the insights I need to make good decisions and live the way You want. Spending time with You allows me to absorb Your wisdom and seek Your counsel. When I think about not being shaken, it includes the knowledge that it is You who will keep me secure. I know You do not exempt me from distress and frustration. Believers and unbelievers alike experience pain, troubles, and loss. Because I have given You the preeminent place in my life, I know You will cover me and give me peace. My faith in You gives me the confidence I need to remain on the path You have chosen for me and the strength I need for the journey.
Feeling secure in You has made my heart glad and given me the secret of Your joy. Happiness is a feeling the world offers to supply enjoyment and satisfaction I can feel in the short run. However, happiness slips away as fear and worry take over my life. When misfortune, adversity, disillusionment, and sadness appear, happiness quickly disappears. The joy I feel from the safety and security You offer is far greater and more lasting than the happiness the world offers me. Joy is the feeling I get from being safely in Your arms. It comes from knowing I can get Your help whenever and wherever I am. Belonging to You and counting on Your blessings makes me feel glad and loved. Because You offer me security, rest and meaning for my life, I am filled with hope and the expectation of good coming to fill it. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
