How Great You Are O Lord

Most Understanding Lord, I am the most ignorant of men. I lack wisdom and know little about You. I have neither ascended into Heaven nor returned to Earth. I cannot catch the wind in my hands nor make rain fall from the sky. Only You are magnificent enough to do such things … they are far above me. Every word You speak is flawless, uplifting and gives hope … who can add to them? Your love is overflowing and You have shown its depth by dying on the cross for me. I rely totally on You for my covering and protection from harm. I neither want to be rich, for fear that when I have more than I need I will forget about You. Nor do I want to be poor and take up stealing to meet my needs and bring dishonor to You. Unlike You, I become angry and speak harshly to others instead of speaking softly with understanding. Life begins to gain more value when I listen to what You say and do it.

You are a God of strong character, profound wisdom and great compassion. You are renown because of Your awesome achievements and faithfulness in fulfilling Your Word. You are beautiful beyond any description because of Your righteousness and strong character. There is nothing I cannot do if I follow Your instructions and remain obedient. You have been a model of righteous living and I strive to emulate Your way of living. When my days are filled with too many things to do, You seem to add hours to my day, show me better ways and give me the strength to persevere. I want to learn how to be diligent in all things and be resourceful like You. There are so many things I do not understand … how airplanes fly, how a baby is formed in the womb, how winds can be so destructive, etc. But one thing I do know is that I am nothing without You and nothing is impossible if You are with me.

It saddens me to know that lives of many are empty, futile and hollow. Their lives are filled with disappointment and disillusionment. They spend their time grasping for possessions, experiences, power, and pleasure of which they can never have enough. You have told us that if anyone lacks wisdom, if they will ask, You will give it to them. What they lack is the wisdom to accept You into their heart where all things become new. I know that if I search for more of You, I will find it. And whatever I ask in Your name, believing … it will be given to me. The only emptiness and meaninglessness I ever feel is when I allow myself to grow apart from You. I must learn to constantly turn to You for practical wisdom that will allow me to accomplish meaningful things and stay out of trouble. Help me to always remember how important You are to my life. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

Psalm 33:8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere His name.
