Maturing Spiritually

Delight of the Father, having given myself to You, my main goal is to become more like You. This can only happen when I allow Your grace to fortify me, and I increase in my knowledge of You. The better I get to know You, the less attractive the Devil’s enticements and sin become. Like a newborn infant, I must become content with the “milk of Your Word.” These are the principles and concepts that are easier to comprehend and implement in my life. Once I see a need for more of You and a yearning for an infusion of the deeper meanings in Your Word, I begin to develop and mature. As my spiritual appetite increases, the things that I learn cause the growth of my spiritual man to increase also. Once I spoke as a child and acted as a child, but now I speak as one who has aged and acts in ways that show my development as a Christian.

To continue to better my life, I must stay close to You … act in ways that do not cause you pain … focus on living out the truths in Your Word … and observing the lives of those who are mature in their walk. Since You see everything that I do, I should build my life on Your Word and strive to include it in the way I live. Your Word is a key to my spiritual maturity because it explains how to live for You and serve You. I will be a disappointment to You if I ignore Your Word and what it is trying to teach me. Consistent and diligent study of Your Word is vital to my continued spiritual growth. To ignore it lulls me into neglecting our relationship and avoiding my true purpose for living. My spiritual muscles are just like my physical ones. If they are neglected, I lose my strength, mobility, and neglect what I need to be doing. Your intent for me is to develop my talents, grow in wisdom and do what You ask of me.

As I meditate on the words You left for me, the teachings of inspired teachers and heeding Your voice, I am being prepared to do things You will ask of me. If I remain the same and do not change, who will be motivated to look up to You? But, if others see me maturing, they too will also want to cultivate a relationship with You. To get beyond infancy in my walk, I must go beyond the elementary teaching of faith, being saved by deeds, the meaning of Baptism, the resurrection, etc. Instead, I must move toward a more complete understanding of faith, spiritual warfare, being an overcomer, allowing You to change me, etc. As a mature Christian, I should be teaching others about elementary truths and guiding them into a walk with You. I show my maturity in the depth of my faith, displaying self-control, loving unconditionally. Displaying these traits will show I am maturing. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

I Timothy 4:15 Be diligent in Godly matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone can see your progress.
