Prayer For Our Nation (4th of July Theme)

Most Holy God, I give thanks for my country, its people, its potential and the government You ordained to guide it.  I pray for all of the men and women in positions of authority that they will act wisely on Your behalf.  Pour out Your Holy Spirit upon them and make Your word known to them.  Cause them to be people of integrity and obedient to Your will concerning Your people and the direction of our nation.  Let discretion be their guiding principle and understanding the lamp to guide their actions.  Enable their hearts and ears to become attentive to the wise counsel You have for them.  Help them become examples of good character and doing what is right in Your sight.  Cut off the wicked and keep them from being elected to office.  Raise up holy, patriotic and caring people to hold positions of responsibility over us.

O Gracious Lord, we live in a world filled with danger and people who would do us harm.  Let there be a shaking over all the earth that will cause evil to repent, murderers to drop their weapons and fall on their knees to adore You and cause the powers of darkness to become impotent in the brightness of Your light.  Put up a hedge of protection around this nation so we do not succumb to evil that would destroy us.  Help us to be faithful friends with those nations who stand for godliness, democracy and respect for all life.  Help this nation stand strong against the evil we face and help us understand that it’s not flesh and blood that we wrestle against, but rulers, authorities and powers of darkness.  Open our eyes to see that it is only through You that we can prevail against such evil.

In summarizing all of Your laws, You told me to love You and love my neighbors.  That can only happen when I do not think more highly of myself than I should and when I learn to live by unconditional love.  I should always hate the sin, but always love the sinner.  Help me do everything in my power to fight abortion, uphold the principle of marriage between one man and one woman and stand up for the rights of all people regardless of sex, race or creed.  My heart and my focus should be on You and all of the things You represent.  I need Your assistance in humbling myself, praying daily and turning from evil.  Open my eyes, as well as those of my brothers and sisters, to discern good from evil and turn from darkness to light.  Raise up a standard in this nation and let it begin with me.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

II Chronicles 7:14 And God said, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
