Dear Lord of Hosts, I find myself in an ever-changing world which, at times, makes no sense to me. It is filled with terroristic attacks, natural disasters, hate crimes and all sorts of violent cruelty. In all of this, I try to make some sense out of all the craziness or search for some kind of reason for why these things happen … who is responsible for it … and, how I can make a difference. And, while I know I will never get all of the answers I seek, this I do know … I love You … I trust You … and, I pray that Your will be done as this country moves forward. In Your Word, You encourage me to not become anxious about anything, but in every situation, by offering up prayers and making petitions, with thanksgiving, present my requests to You. Because of my love for You and my country, I know I can count on You to uphold it and bring it back to its roots.
Any prayer for my nation must begin with thanks for Your goodness and the patience You have shown toward it. This country is a place where rights are defended, religious beliefs are upheld, prosperity is available to all, its people are defended from evil invaders, “justice for all” is a guiding principle and strong moral character has been at its core. Despite the turmoil I see in my country, I am comforted in knowing You alone are its Savior and Lord. As I, and all citizens, face uncertain times we ask that … You continue to dwell in our midst … give us the courage to persevere in doing good … and, get us back on track to be the nation that You created it to be. Send Your Spirit to touch the hearts of our leaders so that they will be upright and just. Grant them true discernment so that they never stray from the duties which we have entrusted to them in upholding our freedoms and caring for our well-being. Help me chose rightly between those who walk uprightly and those whose purposes are selfish and evil.
I entrust this nation to Your loving care. Give it Your light and Your truth to guide it in ways that will cause it to seek You and Your ways. Help us be faithful to Your calling in order to impact the world around us for Your Kingdom. Help me discern between what I rightfully owe to the government and what I owe to You. Today, I can rest confident in the fact that You are in control and that Your “will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” Help me do everything I can to be a good citizen and support my country through patriotism and fervent prayer. As long as I live, I will believe that this nation is founded and sustained by You and that is why I can stand and say proudly that we are “one nation under God”. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
