Sin and Its Consequences

My Just and Mighty God, I understand that You are a jealous God. That tells me You want my allegiance to be Yours alone. If I follow evil or other gods, there will be no resting place for me to go. My mind will become anxious, and my heart will be heavy. I will face dread both day and night and I will never be sure of what my future holds. Terror, fear, and worry will become constant companions and I will see danger lurking everywhere I go. No god, other than You, can care for me and protect me as You do. There are no other gods who are faithful to his own the way that You are. The things that the world uses to attract and tempt me are merely false facades which are void of peace, comfort or good. Possessing things only consume my time and have an appetite that cannot be quenched. If I follow the path of evil, it will lead to ruin and destroy any hope of a prosperous future.

Throughout Your Word, You teach those who will listen that “they reap what they sow.” If I sow evil, then I will reap the consequences of the evil I do. If I sow good, I will reap the consequences of the good I have done. If I sow carnally (of my flesh), I will reap the benefits of being carnal which neither satisfy nor lead to eternal life. If I sow spiritually, I will reap the blessings of grace, mercy, prosperity, and the promise which leads to eternal life. If I sow sparingly, then I will reap sparingly. However, if I sow generously, I will reap generously. To motivate me to do good, I must trust what You say is true. The alternative of trusting the Devil, who is a liar, cannot have a good ending. To choose sin is to reject You and what You stand for. It is easier to sin than to do good because it is natural for my flesh. It takes commitment, perseverance, and dedication to reap the fruit of what You have to offer.

Doing good is not something I should shy away from. Why? Because it pleases You and that should mean everything to me. To be carnal and fleshly plays on the selfish desires that lurk within my fallen nature. To sin says to You “I don’t care what You want … what I want is more important.” Therefore, I must realize that if I take that course, I am accepting pain, ruin, and unhappiness as my future. Living in sin is like living in a darkness which does not allow me to discern between good and evil. How frustrated You must feel when I sin, because rejecting the suffering You went through to redeem me from the powers of sin is being wasted. I know that I can never deceive You and, if I sow to please my sinful nature, I will reap destruction. Help me never weary from well-doing, knowing that in the proper time, I will receive Your blessing. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived. God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
